In Loving Memory of Sagan Marcus Richey,
September 13, 2001 - October 22nd, 2021

Sagan Marcus Richey, also known under the aliases Juno Beach and later Polistirex, was a talented multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer who first discovered his love for synthesizers at the age of fifteen. It all started with a cherry-red MPK mini and cascaded through the next 5 years of his life into a massive collection of new and vintage analog synths, a towering wall of modular synth gear, and an eternally untamable tangle of cables. His love for music was an inseparable and integral part of his life, and his relationship with creating and listening to it was always so much more than just a hobby. Whether he was gripping the steering wheel of his car and screaming along to Haruomi Hosono or sitting for hours on end in his room hunched over, pecking away at keys to create something strange and beautiful, he was completely at home inside himself.

Sagan released his 2017 debut, “Clouds” under the moniker Juno Beach --- a nod to his most prized possession, his beloved Juno 60. From there, he continued to produce under the name Polistirex. Each subsequent release climbed to new sonic heights, and we watched him grow alongside his music. Sagan was as passionate a musician as he was a particular one. He prided himself on everything created, having used only authentic analog gear, forgoing modern applications and software like VSTs and DAWs. His work station often looked like an 80’s electronics store had suffered a terrible explosion, leaving a scattering of neon floppy disks and knotted aux cords in its wake, but he always knew just where everything was.

Sagan was always deeply thankful and inspired by the friends and fans he’d made through hismusic, and their love and support was equally as important. |His intelligence, humor, and dedication to his work was unceasing. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.

As Sagan always said, “thank you for listening.”

i only record with physical gear. it's a real pain in the ass. no daws or vsts are used.

everything's recorded in my "studio" that takes up half of the bedroom.

my main synths are a roland juno-60, jx-8p, korg poly-800 mkii, and a yamaha dx7.

i was previously named "juno beach" but every album made after "sleepwalking" uses the current moniker polistirex.

Finally got this album with another repress. You can always tell a Hotel Pools song from the vibe it provides. Yet each album is different, possible sticking to a theme, creating that unique vibe but allowing for the listener to pick out when it's a Hotel Pools track. Could listen to this over and over, Hydro is fantastic, but the rest are just as good. Keep repressing...keep repressing.... Sheepadoodling
